candle care

Candlelight is wonderful, but please be safety conscious. Never leave a burning candle alone! Pure beeswax candles burn hot. The large candles need to be burned in separate containers with distance between them and the wall. The smaller candles need a space of at least 10 inches or 25 cm. Keep the wick trimmed to about 1/4" or .65 cm and the basin edge will remain level. By the way, store on a flat surface.

To be allergy free, each candle contains pure beewax with no zinc in the cotton wick. The smoke is non-polluting because there are no oil-based hardeners.

Depending on the size of the candle, we do from 20 to over 65 dips per candle. Dipping makes layers of wax with oxygen trapped in the layers. This makes a clean, much longer burn. We dip each candle separately so that the weave of the wick is correct for proper burning.

If you wish to remove the white colour, which is called the 'bloem', rub gently with a soft cloth. A beautiful golden sheen appears!

We use local beeswax from West Cowan Apiaries. It is filtered and not refined. Colouring has not been added. The smoke is clean and white.

Burn the candle away from draughts to avoid dripping.
